All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/obits/obitsca/obitsca.htm ********************************************************** File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: K T bluewolf@onemain.com June 8, 2005, 1:13 am The Bakersfield Californian White, Velda Louise 1916 - 2005 Velda Louise Smith White September 4, 1916 - June 6, 2005 Visitation for Velda Louise Smith White will be held at Basham Funeral Care (3312 Niles Street) on Tuesday, June 7, 2005 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. and also on Wednesday, June 8, 2005 from 10:00-1:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park on Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. Pastor John Scoggins of Rosedale Bible Church will officiate. Velda was born on September 4, 1916 in Floydada, TX to Walter and Lula Gound. She passed away June 6, 2005 in Bakersfield, CA. She was raised in Texas and came to California as a teenager. She soon met and married Arle N. Smith. They had two sons, Richard and Rodger. They were also foster parents to over 100 children in Kern County. She found time to be active in her church, East Bakersfield Church of the Nazarene, where she helped out where needed. She and her husband enjoyed their membership in later years at Calvary Bible Church. Sewing and crafts of all kinds were among Veldas many interests and she loved making things for her family and friends. After many years in sales, Velda retired in 1970 from the Broadway department store in Bakersfield. She loved to travel and would take off at the drop of a hat! Velda was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Arle Smith and Virgil White, whom she married in 1989 and her brothers, Bruno and Wayne Gound. She is survived by her son and daughter-in- law, Richard and Carolynn Smith; son and daughter-in-law, Rodger and Darlene Smith all of Bakersfield; brother and sister-in-law, Buddy and Emma Gound of Las Vegas; sister-in-law, Merna Gound of Orange, CA; six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. The family wishes to thank Emmanuel Convalescent Parkview and Hoffmann Hospice for the wonderful care of our loved one. Mom, may you now enjoy the happiness you so longed for in the gentle arms of you Lord and Savior surrounded by all your loved ones.
