Proverbs 31:29 Visitation begins at noon in the Chapel with an hour of meditation to be held tonight from 7:00 8:00 p.m., in the Jesse E. Cooley Jr. Chapel for Ruth Helen Tarver, who passed away May 28, 2005. A Home Going Celebration for Mother Ruth Helen Tarver will be held Friday, June 3, 2005, 11:00 a.m., at Saints Memorial Church of God in Christ, 200 Pacheco Rd., Bakersfield. Elder Raymond Cunningham, Pastor of Calvary COGIC, Arvin, will officiate. Ruth Helen Greer was born on February 12, 1927, in Falcon, Arkansas, to the parentage of Roosevelt Greer and Lula Mae (Rodgers) Greer. She was one of two children. Ruth attended the local schools in Falcon and Stamps, Arkansas. While in high school in Arkansas, during the 9th and 10th grade, she was a straight A student, and many times was asked to teach the class. After moving to California in 1943, she eventually returned to school and received her High School Diploma from Arvin High School in the early 70s, again achieving a 4.0 scholastic average. On March 12, 1944, she was united in holy matrimony to the late Fred Andrew Tarver (who preceded her in death). They were married for fifty-six years, and through this union, they were blessed with eleven children. Ruth accepted the Lord, Jesus Christ, in 1946, at the age of nineteen, and united with Calvary Church of God in Christ in Arvin, California, where she remained in the will of the Lord for her entire life. During her walk with Christ, she became a Missionary, an Evangelist, and served as the Church Mother for Calvary COGIC for more than 20 years. She was a devoted servant who worked faithfully both in and outside of the Church, serving in many capacities such as a Sunday School Teacher, a Sunshine Band Leader, a member of the Usher Board and a member of the Church Board. She visited the sick and elderly regularly, spreading the Word through her ministry. She loved reading and studying the Bible, and believed that the Lords word was her footprint for living a Christian life. She was respected and admired as a Woman of God, by her children and all who knew her -- for her life was a true and constant role model of Christianity. Mother Tarver was deeply loved, and will be missed by her family, friends, and members of Calvary Church of God in Christ. She leaves to cherish her love and precious memories, her mother, Lula Mae Ford of Arvin, CA; three sons and daughters-in- law, John and Jean Tarver of Portland, OR; Bernard and Cynthia Tarver of Castaic, CA; and Roger and Mearia Tarver of Oxnard, CA; four daughters, Curlie Ann Arnold of Tarzana, CA; Frieda Grey, Della Owens, and Patricia and son-in- law, DeWayne Cheadle, all of Bakersfield, CA; son-in-law, Larry Owens of Oxnard, CA; daughter-in-law, Sadie Smiley of Augusta, GA; mother-in-law, Idella Walker of Augusta, GA; 34 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
