Visitation will be on Wednesday 4 to 8 p.m. Don left this world on May 9, 2005 at Kern Medical Center. His rich, full life was cut short due to Hepatitis C, a liver infection he believed he acquired during his time in Vietnam. Don was a decorated Vietnam veteran who served in-country as a U.S. Army gunner from 1967 to 1972. He is preceded in death by good friends, Rick Ephrom, John Brothers, David Acosta, Bob Brown, Tommie Davis and David Carrasco. He leaves to cherish his memory, John Smith, Mike Bolin, Gary Burkhart, Ben, Stuart Alf, Smoki Francisco and Michael Dio; also his friends at St. Vincents Center, Clinicas Homeless Health and Respite Services, Help+ and Rural Homes Outreach, Kern County Veterans, Veterans Stand- down team and Rainbow Market. He was a dreamer who always looked for his pot of gold-but never quite planned how to carry it home. He was a Renaissance man, self-taught alchemist, scout, gold miner, topographer and historian who was uniquely knowledgeable about abandoned West Coast World War II bunkers. Honorable and ever true to his word, Don was always looking to right some wrong. He would be pleased to know his death my serve to remind us that everyone, especially veterans, deserves to be remembered through the publication of a death notice. Rest now, Don. And God bless Homeless Veterans. Legacy.com Published in the Bakersfield Californian on 6/15/2005.
