She was a longtime resident of Kern County and received the major part of her educational background through California Schools. She was a graduate of Wasco High School, received her BA degree from Fresno State and her Masters degree from the Baptist Seminary in Mill Valley. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, John and her mother and father. She is survived by her loving family, Hazel and Douglas Abbott of Bakersfield, Joyce Gunn and her partner, Bill Malcomson of Houston, TX; and her niece and nephew, Lori and Jim Brackett and their two precious children, Lindsey and Jason on whom she lavished love and affection. Mary Ann was head of the Child Development Program at Bakersfield College supervising seven child care centers in addition to being the instructor at the college, teaching students who aspired to become preschool teachers. She recently was awarded special recognition for her contributions to the college child development program. Children were the love of her life and she was a tireless advocate for proper care and training for the preschool children. Mary Ann was an active and respected member of the Valley Baptist Church for many years. She loved this church and participated in Sunday School and other programs affiliated with the church. Mary Ann was the dearest, sweetest person who was deeply loved and respected by anyone who knew her. Her untimely death has created an immeasurable void in the lives of her family, co-workers and friends. She will be missed by everyone. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, August 9th, with graveside services at 8:30 a.m., at Hillcrest Memorial Park and memorial service, at 10:00 a.m., at the Valley Baptist Church, 4800 Fruitvale Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mary Ann Albanes Scholarship, Bakersfield College, c/o Foundation Office, 1801 Panorama Drive, Bakersfield, CA 93305.
