Vernon Francis Haar a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather has passed away after recently celebrating his 87th birthday. Verne was born the third of five children, September 27, 1918 in LaSalle, Illinois to Frank G. and Jeanne Hamilton Haar. At the age of ten the family moved to Chicago, Illinois where he continued his education. During and after his education, he worked in Chicago, as well as New York and St. Louis. During World War II he served as a Staff Sergeant in the Army Corp of Engineers stationed in the Philippines. After the war he married his fiancée, Helen Rae Hayden, of Ogden, Utah, April 20, 1946 in Fresno, California. They lived there 16 years where all five of their children were born: Suzanne Francine Ames (Fresno, CA), Bruce Vernon Haar (Diamond Bar, CA), Jeanette Rae Easton (Bakersfield, CA), Kurt Brian Haar (Auberry, CA) and Randy Ruel Haar (Fresno, CA). The family moved to Bakersfield when he accepted employment with the State of California in the Employment Development Department. He retired after 26 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. Verne is survived by his wife of 59 years and their five children. They have been blessed with 11 grandchildren, Matthew, Troy, Amber, Jill, Shawn, Clint, Nicole, Daniel, Cameron, Jordan and Hillary. Verne just recently celebrated the birth of twin great-grandsons, Darren Matthew and Spencer Isaac Haar. He enjoyed sports, bowling, camping, and spending time with the family.
