Louise Elizabeth Hammes died at Sutter Davis Hospital in Davis on Thursday, 
Dec. 29, 2005 at age 81.

Mrs. Hammes was born June 2, 1924 in Delaware City, Okla. to Oscar and Mary E. 
(Crawford) Garner. She had been a Yolo County resident for 13 years. After 
completing school in Oklahoma, she worked as a switchboard operator at Edwards 
Air Force Base. For the next 18 years, she and her husband, Charles, worked at 
various Air Force bases throughout the world. In Morocco, she worked with the 
chaplaincy services and traveled to Germany to confer with the European bases 
chaplain's groups for a multi-service program to be used in the military. She 
also worked with the Family Services Unit at each base, helping new families 
settle in and assisting in emergency situations. 

Survivors include Mrs. Hammes' husband of 49 years, Charles L. Hammes; her 
son, Robert Johnson and his wife Joan, all of Davis; two grandchildren; two 
great-grandchildren; her sister, Kathryn Wathen of Lawton, Okla. and her 
brother, Owen Garner of Grove, Okla. She was preceded in death by her son, 
Ross Hammes and her parents.

The family requests memorials in Mrs. Hammes' name be directed to the charity 
of the donor's choice. 

Services: Respecting the wishes of Mrs. Hammes, private services will be held 
in Davis on Saturday, Jan. 14. Interment will also be private. Kraft Bros. 
Funeral Directors is assisting the family with arrangements.
