He fell, on the 7th instant, from the tongue of a heavy logging truck, one of the wheels of which ran over him. He lingered in great pain for three days and died." Additional Comments: Kern County Weekly Courier (Bakersfield, California). July 18, 1874 (Saturday). Page 2, column 2. George Harlan Jr. was the son of George Harlan (1802-1850) and his second wife, Catherine (Fowler) Hargrave Harlan (1821- 1862). George Harlan Jr. was reportedly born in Napa County on October 27, 1850. George Harlan Sr. died just before his son's death and the Fowler family lived in Napa. George Jr. was buried at the Alameda Burying Ground (no longer in existence) at Livermore, California where other Harlan family pioneers were buried.
