Maureen Josephine Hassemer

March, 8, 1915 – Feb. 19, 2006

Maureen Josephine Taylor was born on March 8, 1915 to parents William and 
Fidelis Taylor in Belfast, Ireland. She joined two sisters, Fidelis and Mabel 
and a brother, Robert. Her youngest sister, Noel, was born later.

At the age of 16, Maureen and her family traveled from Ireland across the 
Atlantic Ocean to begin a new life in Boston, Mass. She met Roland Hassemer 
and they married on Oct. 24, 1937. They had a son, George, in June of 1944. 
When George was 7, they moved west for employment opportunities.

Maureen was employed in the clothing industry and was known for her impeccable 
style. Even in her later years, friends would always check Maureen out when 
she came into her room. She and Roland, until his death in 1994, enjoyed 
tennis, square-dancing, cards and the company of their many friends. After 
Roland’s death, Maureen moved closer to her California family and then retired 
to Columbus Estates.

Left to mourn Maureen’s passing are her son, George; daughter-in-law, Gloria 
Hassemer; granddaughter, Shannon; grandson, Ryan; great-grandchildren, Caitlin 
and Colton; sister, Fidelis; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass was celebrated on Friday, Feb. 24, at St. Malachy Catholic 
Church. Father Joel Davadilla officiated at the service. Interment followed at 
Tehachapi Public Cemetery, Westside. 

Wood Family Funeral Service handled the arrangements.
