He was born May 7, 1926, in Arapaho, OK, to George and Floy Hendrix. He was the eldest of six children. He came to Bakersfield from Oklahoma in 1947 where he met and married Gail Bright, July 13, 1956. He worked for Kern Mosquito Abatement until he moved his family to Juneau, Alaska, in 1964. In 1986 he and his wife retired and moved back to Bakersfield. He loved riding his Honda Gold Wing motorcycle making many trips from Alaska to California and Oklahoma and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was a faithful member of the Olive Branch Community Church (Church of God) since 1950. He loved the Lord and his church family, many of whom still call him Johnny. He was a kind, gentle man with a sense of humor who will be dearly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents and a younger brother, Bob. He is survived by his wife, Gail of 49 years; children, Dennis Hendrix of Bakersfield, Debbie (David) Phillips of Juneau, Alaska, Denise (Don) Reeser of Grants Pass, Oregon and Don Hendrix of Seward, Alaska; grandchildren, Seth, Daniel and Aimee Reeser, Jamie (Rico) Garcia, Jennifer Phillips; his brothers, Bill and Jack Hendrix and sisters Joyce Metzler and Marita Hendrix. He was cremated and graveside services will be held September 30th, 10:00 a.m., at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 9101 Kern Canyon Road. Legacy.com Published in the Bakersfield Californian on 9/24/2005.
