"Lou" Loura (Lou) W. Herndon June 1, 1910 - January 14, 2006 Lou Herndons life is to be celebrated on Friday, January 20, 2006, at 1:30 p.m., in the Greenlawn Chapel, 3700 River Blvd. Visitation begins Thursday, January 19th, from 3:00 9:00 p.m. Lou was born in Cyrene, Missouri on June 1, 1910 to Mabel and W.D. Worthington. Lou was one of eight siblings of which Jessie Magee of Eolia, Missouri is the last remaining. During 1931 Lou moved to California, met and married Bill Herndon and settled in Bakersfield where she lived for sixty-three years in a home they built. Bill Herndon passed away in 1973. Lou liked people and worked as a self-employed seamstress in her home from 1952 to the middle 1990s. Her interests centered around her family, many friends, and fellow church members at St. Marks United Methodist Church. If a person needed a friend, a meal, someone to talk to, or someone to cheer them on, Lou was the one to call. She spent untold hours assisting others and never met a person she didnt like. Her love for God, travel, and the Bible took her to most of the states and to foreign countries including the Holy Land. Lou and Bill Herndon have two sons, Jack Herndon, wife, Connie, and Russ Herndon, both of Bakersfield. They also enjoyed three grandchildren, Jeff Herndon, John Herndon, and Katie Delmore, all of Bakersfield; and four great-grandchildren, Derek and Dane Herndon and Ryan and Amy Delmore. Her extended family included many nieces, nephews, and many many friends. Lous family would like to express their appreciation for the care she received at Emmanuel San Joaquin, Skilled Nursing Facility during the past two years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Marks United Methodist Church, 1510 McCray Street or a charity of your choice.
