Russell was born on January 8, 1944 in Bakersfield, California. He was a graduate of Bakersfield High School. He was employed with the railroad for 32 years and he retired in 1997. He enjoyed watching boxing and wildlife as well as listening to Elvis and catching a fish every now and then. He was always willing to help anyone who asked especially if it was help with a car or motorcycle. His hobbies included building and riding motorcycles and repairing bicycles for all the kids. Russell was a hard worker that loved to wear boots and not suits. He was the 6th child out of a total of 13. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Aletha Highfill. Russell is survived by his wife of 20 years, Beverly Highfill; children, Kaylyn Highfill, Russell Highfill Jr. and his wife, Gaylyn, Cindy Hosty and her husband, Brian, Kristy Harris and her husband, David, Shannon Powell and her husband, Mike, Marsha Highfill, Rebecca Highfill, Shane Highfill, Shawn Highfill, Tiffani Highfill. He was a loving grandpa to Destini Hernandez, Tyler Thompson, Gerard Scott (Boogie), Brentt Highfill, Devin Hosty, Starla Scott, Bryn Thompson, Ryan Hosty, Tristin Highfill, Preston Harris, Dawson Harris, Madison Powell, Jacob Halbrook, Luke Hosty, Emily Halbrook and Gaven Harris. He had many cousins, nieces, nephews and long life friends. Russell lived hard and loved long. He considered himself a rich man. He didnt have lots of money, but tons of friends and family. He will be forever loved, respected and a hero in the eyes of his children. Visitation will be held at Basham Funeral Care (3312 Niles Street) on Monday, December 5, 2005 from 5:00 8:00 p.m. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2005 at 12:00 noon at Olive Drive Church (5500 Olive Drive).
