Cyril Honts

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 19, 10:00 a.m., at Kern 
River Family Mortuary Chapel. Interment will be Tuesday, November 22, 10:00 
a.m., at San Joaquin Valley V.A. Cemetery, 32053 McCabe Rd., Gustine, CA. 
Cyril was born August 21, 1922, in Muscatine, Iowa. He was inducted into the 
Army in November 1942. His term of service was 3 years, November 1942 to 
November 1945. His division, The 103rd was committed to active duty in 
Southern France on November 11, 1944. The 103rd Infantry Division fought 500 
fighting miles through France, Germany, Austria and into Italy. Cyril was 
awarded three Bronze Stars for Heroism in Action, a Combat Infantrymans Badge, 
as well as a Good Conduct Medal. He had been a Chef in the Southern California 
area as well as in Bakersfield for approximately 30 years. After his 
retirement, Cyril was the local Fuller Brush distributor serving Kern County 
families. He is survived by his wife, Hazel; 3 daughters, Gloria Afanador, 
Cheri Friedel and Anita Meyer; son, David; and 3 grandchildren. A daughter, 
Sylvia preceded him in death. Viewing will be Friday, November 18th, from 4-8 
p.m., at Kern River Family Mortuary-Oildale, 1900 N. Chester Ave., 
Bakersfield, CA.
