Bill was born to his parents, Lynne Eugene Huffman and Edna Gertrude Perry in Anaheim, California on September 19, 1923. His parents moved from Anaheim and he was raised as a young boy in Bakersfield, California. He attended Bakersfield High School where he played trumpet in the band and graduated in 1942. Following high school graduation, Bill was inducted into the United States Army and did his technical training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He served in World War II as a Technician, Fourth Grade in the 365th Field Artillery Battalion in both the European and Asiatic Theaters. On June 26, 1943, he married Bobbie Jean Brown and is succeeded by three children, Karen Carpenter, Chris Huffman and wife, Pamela Huffman, and Bart Huffman and wife, Laura Huffman; Seven grandchildren, Mark Carpenter, Leslie Cummings, Shersha Green, Rebecca Atigedewe, Patricia Lopez, Erin Huffman and Bryan Huffman and six great-grandchildren, succeeded Bill. He owned and operated his own cabinet shop (Bills Cabinet Shop) in Bakersfield for most of his working career and in the latter part of his career; he worked in maintenance for the Bakersfield City School District. He was active in many different hobbies and organizations. He belonged to the Kern County Boat and Ski Club and the Trailblazers Jeep Club. He was an avid golfer in his latter years and belonged to several of the local golf clubs in the area. Bill loved to fish and go camping at many of the surrounding lakes. We will all miss Bill and God be with him in his journey. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society. Visitation is for family only.
