Her grace and dignity gave us the courage we needed to deal with this terrible disease. Through it all, she never complained. Over the last year and a half of treatments, she lit up every room she entered, making new friends everywhere she went. Sheryl was born in Missouri and moved to Bakersfield at a very young age where she resided all of her life. She was a hard worker. She was a hairdresser for several years before becoming a bookkeeper for Sangera Buick, then Tenneco West, and finally her favorite job as bookkeeper/office manager at Ernst Mfg., where everyone there became her family. She is survived by her only child: Staci Akery; son-in-law, Ronnie; and her twin granddaughters, Allie and Jessica, to whom she devoted her life: mother, Marie Hughes; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sonya and Chuck Nelson of Bakersfield; Brenda and Rex Borum of Ventura, and brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Ginger Hughes of Bakersfield, several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and many friends whom she loved dearly. The family would like to thank Dr. Abhay Risbud and his staff, Dr. Dean Davis and his staff, and Hoffman Hospice for helping us all get through this very hard time. A very special thank you to Angelo, Claudia, and Steffani whom we know God sent into our lives. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 28, at 1 p.m., at Hillcrest Mortuary Chapel, 9101 Kern Canyon Road. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Sheryls name to Hoffman Hospice or the American Cancer society. Until we see you again in heaven, Mom, rest in peace. I love you, Staci Legacy.com Published in the Bakersfield Californian from 9/25/2005 - 9/26/2005. Additional Comments: Volunteer submission - No relation to deceased.
