In 1920 the family migrated to California, arriving by train in the thriving oil boom town of Fellows, it was in Fellows that Lee, as a kid, would experience what he felt was life at its best. After two years of high school at Taft the family purchased a chicken ranch in the Tarzana, CA, where he graduated from Canoga Park High School and served as student body president. In 1938 while attending UCLA, he returned for a visit to Taft, where he met and fell in love with Phyllis Rennels. They wed in December of that year and were married for 65 wonderful years. He served in the Navy in WWII and was employed for 42 years by Standard Oil in Bakersfield and Baharain Saudi Arabia. A devoted Christian couple they are once again united and have left behind a true love story for their children and their childrens children. Lee was one of four children. Two brothers Dee and Jeff and a sister Minnie, all deceased. The Hustead name dates back to 1635 in America and continues to carry on through their three children, Dennis and wife Sharon of Phoenix, AZ, John and wife Beth of Bakersfield, and Lewis and wife Paula of Beijing, China, along with ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. As a husband, father, provider, friend and little league coach, he remains a wonderful example to all who knew him. He claimed to have never had a bad day and he did leave this world a better place.
