Col. Paul G. 1923 - 2005 Paul G. Hallberg, Lt. Col. USAF Retired December 28, 1923 - June 9, 2005 Paul Hallberg, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather was called home to Heaven early Thursday morning June 9, 2005. Paul was a first generation American born of Swedish immigrant parents, Carl and Hedvig Hallberg, in Collins, Wisconsin. The youngest of five boys, he grew up in Winter, a small town in northern Wisconsin, where he spent his days hunting, fishing and working the family farm. With the onset of WWII, his small world expanded to encompass the globe when he enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1943. Paul entered the pilot program after passing a two-year college equivalency test in his senior year of high school and was flying the B-24 at age 20. His twenty-one year military career included a tour in London with the OSS flying single plane missions behind enemy lines to support the resistance movements in Norway and Denmark by dropping agents and supplies. Paul volunteered for a second tour of duty with the OSS in China, where he flew one of the last missions of WWII rescuing POWs in Manchuria. After the war, Paul married Ruth Lingensjo, the love of his life. Subsequently he volunteered to fly in the Berlin Air Lift and later served as Finance Officer in Ben Guerir Morocco. He also served as Base Comptroller in the Strategic Air Command before retiring in 1963 after a tour of duty at March AFB. During this time his family expanded to include three daughters, Dale, Sandra, Bonnie and one son, Kenneth. After his Air Force career, Paul opened a whole new chapter in his life with Ruth as his business partner. Continuing his love of flying, now in private planes, he and Ruth landed in 37 states while building a nationwide business promoting health and prosperity. They reached the top level of Shaklee in record time and were honored as Lifetime Master Coordinators in 1981. In addition to flying, Paul enjoyed golfing, boating and traveling. He loved a good joke and found great joy in helping others. A man of faith, wherever he was stationed, he provided counsel to many pastors and churches. He helped start several churches and provided generous financial support to numerous Christian ministries. Since retiring, he served on the board of Melodyland Christian Center, Moreno Christian Assembly, and most recently Grace Assembly in Bakersfield. Paul is survived by Ruth, his beloved wife of nearly 59 years, children, Dale Arnesen and spouse, Dave, Sandra Penrose and spouse, John, Kenneth Hallberg and spouse, Carolyn, and Bonnie Hallberg, as well as 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and the many others who knew him as Dad or Grandpa. Although Paul will be missed, our spirits rejoice with faith and knowledge, that we will all be reunited for eternity in the presence of God. Paul will be buried with full military honors on Tuesday, June 14 at Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, California.
