Clark-Daniels passed away at Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield, California, on July 31, 2005, with her husband by her side. Carolyn was born in Van Nuys, California to Luther and Delia Hansen, and lived in the Bay Area, Central California, Hawaii, Washington, New York, Nebraska, Illinois, Alabama, and Iowa before settling in Bakersfield with her husband in August 2000. Throughout her life, Carolyn had a passionate love of music. As a child, she enjoyed a brief career as a concert pianist, playing with the San Francisco Symphony at the age of seven. At the age of 38 she was invited to audition for the chorus of the Seattle Opera Company. Over the course of her life, she successfully pursued two careers in accounting and public administration. She graduated from Golden Gate Academy in 1957. She received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Walla Walla College in 1977, a Master of Public Administration degree from California State College, San Bernardino in 1983, and a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Alabama in 1991. In the 1950s and 1960s, she worked as a bookkeeper, accountant, and auditor for various private businesses including American Electric Company. During the 1970s and 1980s, Carolyn worked as an auditor for the Army Corps of Engineers, the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, the Wausau Insurance Company, and the Nebraska Department of Roads. She taught business administration and accounting at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo, California, Southeast Community College in Lincoln, Nebraska, and John A. Logan College in Carterville, Illinois. She taught public administration at Mississippi State University and Iowa State University. Carolyn was intelligent, passionate, and caring. She worked and attended school while raising two sons. She loved music, movies, and sports. She was especially fond of Yo Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman, Elvis Presley, the Beatles, and Led Zeppelin. Her favorite films were The Palm Beach Story and Bringing Up Baby. Carolyn rooted throughout her life for the San Francisco Giants and the Chicago Cubs and she was partial to the University of Nebraska and University of Alabama football teams. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by her husband of 24 years, R. Steven Daniels, of Bakersfield, a son and daughter-in-law, Mark Clark and Renee Clark of Walla Walla, Washington, son Wayne Clark, also of Walla Walla, and five grandchildren, Nicholas, Cody, Konor, Wayne, and Mariah Clark. Her viewing will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, August 8, 2005 at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Bakersfield, California. Her funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 9, 2005, at Hillcrest Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations in Carolyns memory may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
