Vera Leona Hansen Hicks
April 27, 1923 – Aug. 25, 2005

Vera Leona Hansen Hicks, 82, passed peacefully away in the early hours of 
Thursday, Aug. 25, in Reno, Nev. Vera moved to Monolith with her family in 
1932. She attended Tehachapi High School, where she was student body 
president, and graduated in 1941 as valedictorian of her class. She is the 
daughter of LaSalle and Vida Hansen, longtime Tehachapi residents.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Harold H. Hicks, of Sparks, Nev.; 
daughter, Lynn Emery-Wetzel, of Fresno; son, Chad H. Hicks, of Sparks, Nev.; 
sisters, Ruth Johnson, of Kalispell, Mont., Lois Elms, of Bakersfield; and 
Beth Anthony, of Tehachapi; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

She was born in Brigham City, Utah, and lived in Tehachapi, Bakersfield, 
Woodlake and Fresno. She moved to Sparks in 1994. She was an active member of 
the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Services will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 31 at 11 a.m., with viewing at 10 
a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2955 North Rock 
Blvd., Sparks, Nev. Graveside service will be Friday, Sept. 2, at 11 a.m. at 
the Eastside Cemetery in Tehachapi.
