She was at home with her caregivers, daughter and son-in-law, Trish and Dan Jimenez. Mary was born in Coalinga, California, the third of four children to James and Mary Heffernan. She lived most of her life in Bakersfield, attending St. Francis Grammar School, Kern County High School and Bakersfield College. She worked for the phone company before her marriage to William J. McDonald in 1941. As was typical she stayed at home to raise her children, but later worked for many years at her husbands office. She was a kind lady and generous to a fault. She always insisted on paying the tab. She enjoyed living in Bakersfield and managed to live independently until the past few years. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William J. McDonald; her sister, Ellen Hill and Agnes Roberts; and her grandson, Shawn Stanley. She is survived by her brother, William Heffernan; her brother-in-law, Donald McDonald; her daughters and their husbands, Maureen and Jerry Stanley, Trish and Dan Jimenez, Nancy and Lloyd Whitson; her son, Bill and his wife, Lynn McDonald and daughter-in-law, Inge McDonald. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brian Stanley, Scott and Jane Whitson, Brent Whitson, Christian and Brigitte McDonald and Zac and Hannah Griffin; her special niece, Betty Buermann and her husband, Bud; niece, Bonnie Burnell and her nephews, John McDonald and Jim and Joe Heffernan. There was a private service at St. Francis Church, on Friday, June 24th, followed by a burial at Union Cemetery.
