Vernon Apostolic Assembly (519 Mt. Vernon Ave.) on Sunday, July 31, 2005 at 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Mt. Vernon Apostolic Assembly on Monday morning, August 1, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Willie is preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Hernandez. He is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Marie Hernandez; daughter, Stephanie Hernandez; son, Joshua Hernandez; father, Guillermo Hernandez Sr.; sister and brother-in-law, Inez and Ricardo Castillo; sister and brother-in-law, Julie and Uriel Valencia; sister, Velma Hernandez; brother and sister-in-law, Matt and Rosalie Hernandez; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Cecilia and David Garcia; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David and Marisol Garcia Jr.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rafael and Leticia Garcia; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Andy and Rita Garcia; best friend, Eddie DeLaVega as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Willie was an active member of the Apostolic Assembly Church for 16 years. He received the gift of the Holy Ghost on Easter Sunday in 1989 and he was baptized in the Name of Jesus Christ in June of the same year. His desire was to work for the Lord. He was the director of the Junior Department of his local church. He had a great love for all the Juniors and Youth of his church. Everything he did, he did wholeheartedly and with a passion. Willie was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, uncle and friend. His wife and children were his life. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Willie looked forward to his frequent lunch dates with his wife Marie. Willie and his son Joshua were always ready to fire up the grill to cook carnitas or hot links for anyone and everyone who was hungry. He was a family man who valued his family a great deal. By donating a kidney to his mother, he proved he would give anything for those he loved. Willie enjoyed playing sports, especially baseball. You could find him, along with his daughter Steph, with a glove and ball in hand always ready for a good game of catch. He was also an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. Yeah! His friends were more like family and he always treated them with love and respect. Willie was loved by all who knew him. He brought out the best in each person who's life he touched.
