Father Ralph Belluomini will officiate. Interment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Norma was born the second daughter of Fred and Ala Hess who owned a cattle ranch in Austin, Nevada. Norma spent her early childhood years there and then moved to the Tehachapi area. She graduated from Tehachapi High School and attended Bakersfield College. She met and married Phil Etcheverry and they were married 53 years until his death in 2000. After their marriage he bought a ranch in Eureka, Nevada, just 50 miles from where she had spent her childhood. She loved the ranch and spent every summer with the family working there. Norma was a devoted mother to her four children. She raised them with an appreciation for hard work and education. The time they spent together in the summers on the ranch was the most important thing in her life. She loved to ride horseback with her children and took pleasure in the ranch life away from their busy life in California. She enjoyed reading and listening to the Dodgers on the radio in the evenings. During the school year when the family lived in Bakersfield, she played bridge with several bridge groups and was known for her keen wit and competitive edge. She worked in the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary and was a member of the St. Francis Altar Society for many years. She was also an honorary life time member of the Kern County Basque Club. She is survived by her son, Jim Etcheverry; daughters and sons-in- law, Frances and Dave Peterson, Lisa and Mark Hance, and Julie and Garret Randolph; grandchildren, Mark Carroll and wife, Rebecca, Kevin Peterson, Nick and Grace Etcheverry, Alexis and husband Jason Hatcher, Patrick and Allison Frazier, Vincent and Justin Randolph; and great-grandchildren, Elyse Carroll and Jackson Hatcher and her beloved terrier, Max. She is also survived by her sister, Helene Nelson of Sonora. Pallbearers will be Mark Carroll, Kevin Peterson, Nick Etcheverry, Patrick Frazier, Harold Thornburgh and Jim Sakowski.
