Upon graduating from South High with honors, Sandy attended Cal- Berkeley where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Anthropology. Sandy was an employee of Child Protective Services for over twenty-five years. Employed as a Social Worker and Supervisor, Sandy advocated for the prevention of child abuse and the protection of children who had been abused. Sandy was respected by many as the Historian and Librarian of CPS for her extensive knowledge and informational resources. Quite creative in the making of crafts, quilts, and hand made jewelry, Sandy was modest talking of her skills, and very generous in sharing with her friends the finished product. Sandy particularly liked decorating and making crafts with a cow theme. Sandy was preceded in death by her father, Cody Bill Hewitt. She is survived by her spouse of twenty-seven years, Gary; her mother, Winona; brother, Marc; uncle, Jim Beery; aunts, Yvonne Lane, Ethel Popp and numerous cousins. As a devoted daughter, Sandy will be greatly mourned and missed by her mother, Winona, spouse, Gary and many friends. As Sandy had a great affection for cats, the family asks in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Cat People in Sandys memory. Legacy.com Published in the Bakersfield Californian on 7/16/2005.
