Born in Rochester, New York, on February 24, 1916 to Harold and Mabel Holden, he died at home surrounded by his wife and family on Sunday, August 7, 2005. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. While stationed at Minter Field, he met his future wife, Muriel Christine Ashe, whom he married in 1944 in Bakersfield. With the support of his father-in-law, Dick Ashe, he graduated from University of California, Berkeley, and USC Medical School. He interned at Orange County General Hospital and completed his residency at Kern General Hospital before entering private practice as an internist specializing in cardiology. In 1988, he retired from a practice where his patients found him to be a conscientious and very caring doctor. His partners in that practice were Dr. Sandidge and Dr. Faulstick. He is survived by his wife and four children and their families: Richard and his wife, Marci Lingo, and his children: Matthew, Jeremy and Anne Ellice, as well as Jeremys daughter, Leah; Diane and her husband, Allen Stroud and their daughter, Nikolle; Donna and her son, Davy; and Debbie and her daughter, Kaitlyn. He was preceded in death by two sons, Jonathan and Douglas. In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate contributions sent to Hoffmann Hospice, 5300 California Avenue, Suite 1, Bakersfield, CA 93309 in memory of the fantastic care they provided him and the sensitivities they had toward us.
