Pastor L.V. Lawson will officiate at the service and interment will follow at Shafter Memorial Park. Geraldine was born in Dunklin County, Missouri, to Newton and Letha Holt. She attended various schools while traveling the migrant farm circuit of Arizona, California and Missouri. She married Clyde McIllwain on February 17, 1937, in Missouri, and the couple came to Shafter in 1945. Geraldine was an excellent cook and known for her delicious coconut cream pies, cobblers and other deserts. She raised her children and helped supplement the family income by chopping cotton and picking potatoes. She was a member of the Jesus Saves Church and enjoyed the Ladies Quilting Group. Geraldine was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde in 1998; her daughter, Opal Arguedas in 1996; her infant son, Ralph David. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Ronnie and Darlene McIllwain; Carolyn and Robert Ashe, Vonnie and Gary Jones all of Shafter, Barbara and Jed DeVoe and Sandy and Cecil Eagle all of Bakersfield; brothers and their wives, James and Jean of Shafter, Glen and Annette of Bakersfield, Tommie and Jewel of Missouri and Donald and Christine of Kentucky; sister, Martha and husband, George Seidel of South Carolina; 13 grandchildren and 14 great- grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; and many other loving family members.
