Born in Loup City, Nebraska, on May 3, 1923, to Tony and Victoria John, she enjoyed her childhood on the farm with her siblings, Evelyn, Lawrence, Eileen, Betty and Dolores, all of whom preceded her in peaceful rest. She attended Loup City High School where she graduated in 1940 as Homecoming Queen. After moving to California, in 1943, she married the love of her life, Duane M. Carpenter, also of Loup City, Nebraska. The early years of their marriage were spent in Los Angeles, and later in San Lorenzo, California where they started their family. She is the loving mother of two daughters, Cheryl Carpenter and Susan Carpenter-Farler. Dorothy and Duane Carpenter spent the last 40 years of their 62 years of marriage in Bakersfield, California. Many will remember her as a co-proprietor of the Fosters Freeze on Chester Avenue and for her years of kind service at Sears. Her friends will recall many a card game, Bingo hour, social dinner and her amazing cooking. She will be missed by many. Along with her husband and two daughters, her life and spirit will be lovingly remembered by grandson, Brian Farler and granddaughter, Ingrid Carpenter, as well as many nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Sunday, December 11, 2005, at the Kern Canyon Estates Club House, 8536 Kern Canyon Rd., Bakersfield, California. Legacy.com Published in the Bakersfield Californian on 12/6/2005. 1962 - 2005 Santos Bernal, Jr. 1962 - 2005 A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, December 7, 2005, 10:30 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church for Santos Bernal, Jr. He was born on February 7, 1962 in Texas. He lived in Bakersfield all his life, leaving a lasting impression every-where he went. He had a kind heart and always meant well. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Santos is survived by his wife, Lucy; his son, Santos Bernal III; his daughter and son-in-law, Belinda and Carlos Soto; his grandson, Leo B.; his one brother and ten sisters.
