Robert was born on Jan. 6, 1929 in Stockton, Calif., to LaVere and Hazel Johnson. At the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Navy and served his country for the next 23 years. He served during both the Korean War and Vietnam. He then went to work for the government as a vehicle supervisor, working in that capacity for 25 years. In 1988 he purchased property in Stallion Springs, moving permanently to the area in 1990 from the Torrance area where he had lived for the past many years. In Tehachapi, Robert was able to put his many skills to good use. He was a great handyman, constantly fixing things around the house. He also enjoyed tinkering with his cars. Having lived all over the world during his Navy career, he particularly enjoyed the beauty and solitude of the Stallion Springs area. He was also able to put many of his military skills to use in the Tehachapi Search and Rescue. He was an active member for the past 15 years and will be greatly missed by that organization. Robert was a friendly and kind man who was devoted to his large extended family and to the many friends he had developed over the years. Robert is survived by his wife, Betty, of Stallion Springs; sons, Wayne of England, Kevin of Stallion Springs, Adrian of Tennessee, and Dennis of Washington; daughters, Patricia of Missouri, Shannon of Michigan, and Belinda of California; 21 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and sister, Colleen of Half Moon Bay. Wood Family Funeral Service handled the cremation arrangements. Additional Comments: Volunteer submission - No relation to the deceased. No other information available from submitter.
