After his separation from the Army, John met Vera C. Barnard Cole and they married in 1948. John and his wife Vera were members of the First United Methodist Church in Delano for over 50 years. They enjoyed circle and square dancing. After retirement, they traveled for 18 years. Many of their trips were with the Barnard clan. They appreciated the beauty of the United States and our National Parks in particular. John loved visiting with friends and family and was happiest when he could serve or help others. He was active in the Delano Senior Citizens for several years. He made many new friends when he moved to an independent living facility in Bakersfield.
