Iona (Toni) Brown 
Services: Mon., Sept. 19, 2:30 p.m. 

Iona (Toni) Brown, age 84, passed away on September 12, 2005, in Bakersfield, 
California. Iona was born on July 22, 1921, in Thorntown, Indiana to the late 
parents of Gladys Joseph and Lyle Joseph. She moved to Kern County in 1955 
with her husband, John Brown. Iona and her husband were members of the Church 
of Christ in Lamont for many years. Iona leaves to cherish fond memories: her 
sons, Jack Joseph and wife, Joan of Nipomo; Lonnie Brown and wife, Laurie of 
Arvin; daughters, Carolyn Holtschulte and husband, Charlie Maddox of 
Bakersfield, Maxine Hodges and husband, Larry of Pasadena, Texas; Cathy Hawes 
and husband, Cliff of Roseburg, Oregon; and Sandy Billingsley of Bakersfield; 
twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-
grandchildren and one sister, Evelyn Bowen of Thorntown, Indiana. Iona was 
preceded in death by her husband, John Brown, her three brothers and two 
sisters. Visitation will take place on Monday, September 19th, at Greenlawn 
Southwest Memorial Park, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Graveside services will 
follow at 2:30 p.m., with the Reverend Dudley Stout, officiating. The family 
wishes to thank the staff at Emmanuel San Joaquin Convalescent Hospital for 
their loving care of our mother during the past four years.
