Virginia K. Johnson was known as the Sheep Lady of Bakersfield. For the last 27 years she had an unmatched passion for two things: her kids and her sheep (which anyone would tell you were also her kids). She was mother, grandmother, mentor and friend to the thousands that passed through her gates at Johnsons Livestock Farm. Both she and her flock were very well known at nearly every fair and livestock auction in this state and some nationally. She had an incredible reputation and was loved by many people. She was an active member in most local chapters of the FFA, the Jr. Farmers Assoc., 4-H, the Wool Growers Assoc. and many other organizations. She volunteered countless hours to over a dozen local Ag. programs. Virginia will be sorely missed, not only by her immediate family, but also by her extended family and friends in the community. She is survived by her husband, Lloyd; her brother, Leroy; her children, Don, Kathy, Steve, Teri, John and Bud; her 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Per Virginias request, no memorial services will be held. Well-wishers may instead make memorial contributions to local youth and agricultural programs. The Everlasting Light Those we love must someday pass beyond our present sight Must leave us and the world we know without their radiant light. But we know that like a candle, their lovely light will shine, to brighten up another place more perfectmore divine. And in the realm of heaven where they shine so warm and bright, our loved ones live forevermore in Gods eternal light. Legacy.com Published in the Bakersfield Californian on 7/6/2005.
