Raised on a farm in Arkansas, Mabel moved to California after her marriage to Henry Evans in 1928 and settled in Bakersfield in 1932. She was a charter member of Canyon Hills Assembly of God Church, from its start as Magunden Assembly of God Church in the mid 1930s. Mabel devoted her life to her family and her church. She was a blessing in the lives of her family and everyone who knew her and she will be truly missed. Mabel was preceded in death by her husband (and soul mate), Henry, on November 23, 1968; and two grandsons, Blaine Evans in 1979 and Scott Shaw in 2000. She is survived by four children, her daughters, Ruth Hays (husband, Kenneth, deceased) of Bakersfield, Dorothy Collari and husband, Joe of Stockton, CA, Norma Shaw and husband, Joe of Anchorage, Alaska; and by her son, Dale Evans and wife, Jenny of Bakersfield; sister, Loma Cates of Arkansas; 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. Grateful thanks to Dr. C.K. Chen and Optimal Hospice. Services will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Chapel, Saturday, June 18, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. No visitation is scheduled.
