Johnston Feb. 25, 1914 – May 23, 2005 George F. Johnston passed away peacefully on May 23, 2005 surrounded by his family at the Salina Memorial Hospital. George had lived in Salina since 1982. George Johnston was married to Evelyn M. Johnston for 58 years. George served in World War II and the Korean War. He retired after 37 years in the State of California Department of Corrections in the position of associate warden for the Tehachapi Correctional Institution. George served on the Tehachapi Unified School District board and as president of the Golden Hills Golf Course and Homeowners Association. He was also a member of the Elk’s Lodge and American Legion. His hobbies were golf and spending time with his family. A memorial will be held June 18 in Salinas. He is survived by his wife; daughters, Judy Hazen (husband Larry) of Gilroy and Mardi Knapp (husband Tom) of Watsonville; grandchildren Tiffany Hazen, Lori Cardoza, Larry Hazen, Ken Knapp, Tracy Jones, Vance and Mark White; and nine great-grandchildren. Box 515, Northampton, MA 01061- 0515 or another charity in the name of George F. Johnston.
