Julio M. Kates 
July 22, 1928 - Sept. 20, 2005 

Chapel Services for Julio M. Kates will held on Tuesday, September 27, 2005 at 
10:00 a.m. at Greenlawn Southwest Memorial Chapel, 2739 Panama Lane. He was 
born in Pond, California and lived in Kern County all his life. Julio was a 
member of Guadalupe Church for many years and in 1991, the Church honored him 
as The Man of the Year. In January 1951 he was initiated into Labor 
International Union of North America Local #220 and retired in August 1977. He 
worked through the Union in construction work for 26 years. He is survived by 
his daughter, Christina Rodriguez and Jess; son, Julio C. Kates; son, Albert 
C. Kates and Sonia; stepdaughter, Yolanda C. Ramirez and stepson, Hilario 
Olvera and Sandra. As well as grandchildren, Joey Cortez, Maria Lomeli, Eric 
Soto, Stephanie Soto, Ashley Kates, Jesus C. Rodriguez, Albert T. Kates, 
Armando Kates, and Quentin E. Kates; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Thomas 
Kates and sister, Francis Kates. He was preceded in death by his wife, Amelia 
and step-daughter, Concepcion Cortez. Julio loved his family and enjoyed 
spending time with his grandchildren. He was always very helpful to his 
friends and neighbors with lawn care and many other chores. Julio was a friend 
to all and will be greatly missed. On Tuesday he went to be with his Sugar 
Babe. Visitation will be held Monday, September 26 from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
