Jewel B. Miller 
1921 - 2005 

Grandson Matthew Sparks will officiate at graveside services to be held on 
Saturday, November 5, 2005, 10:00 a.m., at Greenlawn Cemetery, 3700 River 
Blvd., for Jewel Bernice Miller who passed away on November 1, 2005. Jewel was 
born April 10, 1921 in Waldron, Arkansas, to Jeff T. King and Bertie Lee King. 
Most of the King family had migrated to Kern County by the late 1930s and 
Jewel followed with her own young family in 1942. She lived and worked in 
Bakersfield for over 60 years; as a young woman a butcherette, café owner and 
cook. She married Fred Miller in 1953 and for many years supported his 
involvement in the coin machine business as M&M Music and later as a partner 
in Modern Amusement Company. Always with family close, she very much enjoyed 
gardening, sewing, quilting and crafts. During holidays, the Miller home on 
Dena Court was always filled with family, friends and the aroma of Moms great 
cooking. She is survived by brother, Troy King; daughter, Pamela Fields and 
husband, John; son, Dan Sparks and wife, Jeanne; stepsons, Douglas and Glenn 
Miller and stepdaughter, Sandra Plummer. She was blessed with thirteen 
grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. 
Visitation begins Friday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
