Kissack Jan. 29, 1911 - Dec. 26, 2005 Services: Fri., Jan. 6, 1:00 p.m. The Kern River Valley mourns the loss of a precious part of its history with the passing of Grace Kissack at her beloved home on the ranch. Grace was born January 29, 1911 on a farm in Newark, Ohio. She was the fifth of eight children born to William and Grace Lees. In her late twenties Grace followed her family to Los Angeles where she graduated with honors from USC. In 1939 she accepted a teaching position in Weldon and roomed with a pioneer family on the Smith Ranch. Grace met the love of her life, William Walker Kissack, at a church social shortly after coming to the valley. They were married July 27, 1941 and were blessed with fifty-seven years of love, commitment and adventure. Their love not only included their three children, six grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren, it extended to the community in many special gifts. When the Lake Isabella Dam was built it was necessary to move the family ranch from what is now the lake bottom to its existing location in Mt. Mesa. Grace & Bill worked side by side in developing the town of Mt. Mesa. Grace's pride and joy was the local Hospital that was built on land donated by both Grace and Bill. She also donated property to many different local churches, the County of Kern for a new park and her most recent donation of property to the Kernville School District for a new school site. Grace was a constant foundation in the lives of her family and friends. No matter what life brought, her spirit remained gentle, kind and consistent. As so aptly stated by one of her fan's, "You are truly a lady of grace with a soul that reflects the warmth of the sun." Survivors left to cherish her memory include daughter, Carolyn Hancock and friend, Mark Bryant; sisters, Mary Sutton, Helen Pierce and her husband, Jack; grandson, Scott Kissack and wife, Cari and children Billy, Kacie and Keaton; granddaughter, Kristine Shanley and husband, Mike and sons, Derek and Daniel King; granddaughter, Kimberly Villani and husband, Frankie and children, Kenny, Conagher and Francesca; granddaughter, Heather Dunne and daughters, Taylor and Logan; grandson, Craig Young; granddaughter, Angie Young; nephew, Dennis Kissack and wife, Sharon and son, Travis; daughter-in-law, Lynda Kissack and husband, John Watkins. Grace was preceded in death by her husband, William; her son, Bill; and her daughter, Linda. The family extends their deep appreciation to Gloria Melson who has spent the past few years in loving care of Grace. Appreciation is also extended to Nita Wilson, Dr. Wolney, Dr. Sawal, Hoffman Hospice and Kern Valley Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Grace can be made to Kern Valley Hospital Foundation or Kernville Union School District libraries. A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Lake Isabella, 3701 Suhre Street, on Friday, January 6th, at 1:00 p.m. Legacy.com Published in the Bakersfield Californian from 12/30/2005 - 12/31/2005.
