Although her passing has left a huge hole in the hearts of her family and friends, she is now basking in Gods presence with her parents, Scott and Verona Whitlock. Lorraine was born July 23, 1928, in Texarkana, Arkansas, the first of seven children: Zelna (McKamie), Scott Whitlock Jr., Rebekah (Wood), Mary (Hamilton), Joanna Whitlock, and Rachel (Watson). Rachel and Rebekah are also rejoicing in heaven, seeing their sister once again. Valedictorian of her high school, Lorraine went to Bethany Nazarene College in Oklahoma, where she met her husband-to-be, Ivan Kounter, after stepping on the back of his shoe. They were married 57 years, most of which were spent in Texas and Southern California in ministry with the Church of the Nazarene. Upon retiring, Ivan and Lorraine settled in Bakersfield to be near several of their children. Lorraine is survived by her husband, Ivan, and children: Marilyn and husband Dan Radley of Bakersfield, David Kounter and Carole of Dana Point, Suzie and husband Greg Prough of Sparks, Nevada, Mark Kounter and wife Karen of Bakersfield, and Tim Kounter and wife Sondra of Bakersfield. Missing grandma are Kristen and husband Tim Goree, Jayme and husband Woody Melton, Stacie Kuhl, Roger Kounter, Adam and wife Rebecca Prough, Nathan Prough, Lindsay and Bradley Kounter, Sarah, Kyle, Jake and Timmy Kounter. Great-grandchildren who will miss the open arms, hugs, and kisses are McKennah, Morgann, and Marlee Goree, Jaida Melton, and Tyler and Destiny Kuhl. Theyre convinced that no one makes sugar or Cowboy Cookies like Grandma! Lorraines love was genuine, contagious, and unconditional. Her faith and trust in God never wavered. She had a gift of making all she met feel special. Her smile and humor were contagious, and her spunk bordered on downright ornery. A favorite song written by son Mark, contains the words "Come feast at my table, theres a place set for you. You are my child, I delight in you, and I call you by name." Christ is speaking her name now, Face to face. Upon learning that Grandma had gone on to heaven, four-year old Morgann said, "You mean shes with Jesus now? Yea!" In lieu of flowers, you may contribute to the Lorraine Kounter Memorial Fund to support a mission trip to Africa, sponsored by Olive Knolls Church of the Nazarene.
