He passed away after a sudden illness on January 18, 2006, at the age of 83. Bill was a quiet, passionate, and spiritual man. At 19 he enlisted in the Army and was stationed at Camp Maxie in Paris, Texas. It was here that he met and began courting Dorothy Jean King. Shortly thereafter he was shipped overseas where he proudly served his country during World War II. He was wounded in Normandy and had a lengthy recovery in England. He was eventually transferred to Winter General Hospital in Topeka, Kansas and it was here that Dorothy came to see him and three months later they were married on September 1, 1944. Bill continued to serve his country and was discharged in Levenworth, Kansas in the Spring of 1946. After his discharge he and Dorothy moved to Bakersfield, California to be with family. It was here that they purchased their first and only home where they raised three children. Bill supported his family by working at Sears Roebucks for many years and then as a business owner of Imported Motor Parts Company. He was an active member of the Eagles Post 93 for 45 years and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Dot of 62 years; his daughter, Peggy Lynn and husband, Forrest Newburg of Bakersfield, CA and their three sons, George Englemann of Appleton, WI, Ben Newburg and wife, Kristi of Omaha, NE, and Bradford Newburg of San Diego, CA; son, Robert Franklin Kuester and wife, Kristine of Tigard, OR and their children, Samantha Kuester of Sherman Oaks, CA and Wil Kuester of Tigard, OR; daughter, Julie Ann and husband, Michael Worthing and their children, Matthew Worthing of Bakersfield, CA and Elizabeth and husband, Craig Harmelin of Santa Barbara, CA. He also has three great- grandchildren, Callee, Cassidy and Klara Englemann of Wisconsin; sisters, Dorothy Stanley of Auburn, CA and Mary Jo Kuester of Turlock, CA. He will be missed greatly by all those who knew and loved him, however the Lord said, Come my good and faithful servant, its time to come home. A celebration of his life will be held at St. Marks United Methodist Church, 1510 McCray Street, Saturday, January 21st, at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Susan Foster to officiate.
