Zachery Services: Mon., May 9, 2:30 p.m. Graveside services will be held Monday, May 9th, at 2:30 p.m., in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3700 River Blvd., for Marie Antoinette Zachery, 87, who passed away May 2, 2005. Fr. Jack Estes of St. Lukes Episcopal Church will officiate. Marie was born in Redlands, California to Ralph and Albertha Keyser. She grew up in the Kern River Valley. After her father died in 1927, Ed Kewin married her mother and became a wonderful father for her. She graduated from KCUHS in 1936 and from Bakersfield Junior College in 1939. In 1940, she married VanBuren Zachery and they had three sons. She was very active in the Kern County Fire Department Auxiliary for many years. After recovering from polio in 1951 she volunteered often for Kern County Health Department clinics. She also divided her time between PTA and Cub Scouts. From 1959 until 1971 she worked for Bakersfield City School District in the business office. In later years she devoted much time to St. Lukes Episcopal Church. Throughout the years she loved spending time at the mountain property in Twin Oaks, and was a member of the Golden Girls from her youth in the Kern River Valley. Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Van; their three sons, Daniel and wife, Chris, David and wife, Sandra, and Dennis and wife, Linda; grandchildren, Natalie Menees and Paul, Michelle Zachery, Ann Garcia and Rick, Amy Zachery, and Dennis Lee Zachery and Raelynn and great-grandchildren, Taylor, Alexandra, Trace, Ryan, Kaitlynn and Hailey.
