Norval McClellan Kirby 
June 11, 1916 - June 20, 2005 

Visitation for Norval McClellan Kirby will be held at Basham Funeral Care 
(3312 Niles St.) on Thursday, June 23, 2005 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and funeral 
services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (851 
Monica St.) on Friday, June 24, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. Bishop Stephen Dunn will 
officiate, and interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Norval 
McClellan Kirby, 89, passed away suddenly while working at his Bakersfield 
home on June 20, 2005. Norval born June 11, 1916 in Sanford, CO was the first 
child of Parley Kirby and Bettina Evelyn Holt. The family moved to the Los 
Angeles area when he was young, and eventually settled in Bakersfield. He 
owned his own business, became a probation officer for the county and finally 
worked as a salesman for Barber Pontiac. He spent some of his retirement years 
in Roseburg, OR where he loved to fish, but eventually returned to 
Bakersfield. Norval was active in his church and was proud of his Mormon 
pioneer heritage. Family history research was more than a hobby to him. 
Thoughts of his family members were ever with him. He is survived by his wife 
Betty, former wife, Lois; brother, Howard; the families of his children, Ron, 
Karen Jett, Dwight and Paula Meeks and the extensive Kirby family. For
