He passed away on May 18, 2005, in Bakersfield, California at San Joaquin Community Hospital. Stan is survived by his daughter, Viviane Lee Wolf; son, Shawne Lealon Knight; grandsons, Michael and Joshua Knight; brother, Howard Abbott and sister, Toni Blagg, all living in Bakersfield, CA. He was married to Helen L. Judd. He was raised by his mother, Vivian Loretta and his grandfather, John Lealon Gulley who was a Bakersfield police officer and also his aunt, Dorothy Dot and uncle Broadus Buck Fraiser who lived in Pismo Beach. Stan served his country honorably during the Korean War as an aircraft mechanic from March 3, 1952 to February 25, 1954. He received 3 service medals from his country and was proud of his tour of duty. Stan was an outdoorsman from the time he could tie his shoes. Stan loved to fish and caught his first 6 lb. trout at the age of 9 in the Kern River. He could fashion anything from nature for survival and was a modern day Huckleberry Finn. He could quote all the great authors and loved to read all the great novels. Stan was his own man and lived by his own rules. People that knew him understood. He loved life and we loved him.
