Bob was born November 13, 1927 to Grace and Gus LaBrut in Taft, CA. He went through Taft schools graduating from Taft High in 1945. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1945-46. He worked for Standard Oil from 1947-1950, Taft City School District 1950-1973, and Maricopa Schools from 1973- 1989. His biggest joy was mentoring young students in ROP classes and later as a substitute teacher. He served on various boards including the Fort and Cemetery. He was a member of Hi-12 and Masonic Lodge 426. Bob is survived by his precious wife of 58 years, Barbara; daughters, Peggy McKeeman and her husband, Wayne of Fresno, and Judy Shelby and her husband, Dennis of Yuma, AZ; four grandchildren which he adored Scott McKeeman and his wife, Marli of Fresno, CA, Craig McKeeman and his wife, Patti of Merced, CA, Alison Shelby of Colcord, OK, and Lindsay Shelby of Fayetteville, AR; one great-grandchild, Blake McKeeman; one sister, Joy Archibald of Taft along with her children, Gay and Ken Anderson of Taft, Bob and Lori Archibald of Maricopa and Don and Debra Archibald of Grover Beach, CA. Bob was one of a kind. His generous and servant spirit was well known by many. He was a loving husband, daddy and grandpa. He will be greatly missed. Graveside funeral services will be held in the West Side District Cemetery on Thursday, at 10:00 a.m. Dennis Shelby and the Officers of the Taft-Midway Lodge, #426, F.&A.M. will officiate. The family has suggested that in lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. LaBruts memory may be made to Optimal Hospice of the West Kern Oil Museum. No visitation hours are scheduled and the services are under the direction of Erickson & Brown Funeral Home, 765-4111.
