He continued his education at Bakersfield College, earning an A.A. degree. He worked at Green Frog Market, Berean Christian Bookstore, and the Dept. of Human Services. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 19 years, mostly as a mail carrier in Oildale and North Bakersfield where he encountered fog, heat, frost, innumerable dogs---with several teeth marks to show for it---and on one occasion, a massive Boa Constrictor. He will be remembered for his wit and good humor, his gentle spirit, and a remarkable memory, never forgetting a birthday or failing to send a card. He loved shopping, cooking, and writing notes to family and friends. He enjoyed trips to the beach, whether the central coast, Hawaii, or Eureka. He was member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Shafter where he was baptized and, later St. Paul's Episcopal Parish in Bakersfield. Perry David was preceded in death by his father, Louis O. Lawrence, and his sister Lou Ann Lawrence. Survivors include his mother, Norma Lawrence; sister, Linda Lawrence and many extended members of the Burgermaster and Lawrence families, as well as friends, whom he cherished and who will long remember him. Service of Christian Burial is scheduled at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on 17th and B streets on Monday, January 23rd, at 1:00 p.m. Legacy.com Published in the Bakersfield Californian from 1/19/2006 - 1/22/2006.
