"Larry" 1922 - 2005 Lawrence W. Leach (Larry) Mar. 2, 1922 - Nov. 23, 2005 Graveside services for Lawrence W. Leach will be held at Shafter Cemetery Tuesday, November 29, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. Larry was born in Sterling, Oklahoma to John and Etta Leach on March 2, 1922. Not long after his family moved to Shafter, California during the Dust Bowl. Larry graduated from Shafter High School in 1942 and joined the U.S. Military in 1945. He served in WWII as a Ball Turret Gunner on a B29 Bomber. He was one of the few who served in 3 branches of the Military: Army, Air Force and Navy. After 30 years in the military he retired as a Technical Sergeant and returned to live in Bakersfield. He went to work for a local paint & body shop before starting his own known as Larrys Body Shop. He retired after 20 years and his youngest son took over changing the name to PeeWees Paint & Body, which is still in business today. He loved to dance, play cards and spend time with his family. He enjoyed talking about his military career and would tell stories to anyone that would listen. He was very proud to have served his country. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn in 1952; second wife, Eudah in 2003; third wife, Veda in 1995; his parents, John and Etta and brother, Clarence. He is survived by his son, Larry Don and wife, Wendy Leach; son, Jerry Leach; son, Lawrence Jr. and wife, Lynda Leach; son, Clarence and wife, Terri Leach; daughter, Helen Stockton; along with many grandchildren, great- grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and several other friends and family including his special friend, Nelda Wigins. A special thanks to son, Larry Don and daughter-in-law, Terri who cared for Grandpa over the past several years taking him to get his hair cut, to the grocery store, over to Neldas house or to his favorite restaurant The Hometown Buffet. He loved their company and looked forward to their visits. Larry was a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. He will be missed more than words can express.
