She was born March 3, 1916 to Paul August Leisten and Elizabeth Stewlow Leisten. Her parents were both born in Germany. She was the ninth in a family of ten children. Claudine Leisten was born in Visalia, CA and attended grammar and high school there. She graduated from Luskins Business College in Bakersfield and worked for Kern County. She married Horace Wheat on January 24, 1948. They had 40 years together, residing in Bakersfield. She was a active member of Stockdale Country Club and enjoyed golf, dancing, and playing bridge with her friends. She also enjoyed traveling. Claudine generously gave her time to Bargain Box, working there for many years.She was a avid gardener and grew prize winning roses. She often gave family and friends grapefruit and lemons to take home.Claudine enjoyed her femininity and was always beautifully dressed with her thick, pretty hair perfectly styled. While Horace and Claudine had no children, they leave behind numerous nieces and nephews. She will be missed and lovingly remembered. A memorial service will be held at Greenlawn Mortuary, 3700 River Blvd. at the intersection of Panorama and River in Bakersfield on Thursday, October 6, 2005, at 11:30 a.m. A luncheon will follow at Bill Lees Bamboo Chopsticks, 1203 18th Street and all friends and family are invited.
