Lemons August 26, 1935 - October 8, 2005 Wayne, age 70, a well known resident of Bakersfield, passed away peacefully and quietly, early Saturday morning, October 8th. He was preceded in death by his parents, Delmar and Izora Lemons of Bakersfield. Wayne was born in Fillmore, CA and made Bakersfield his permanent home in 1949. He was a 1954 graduate of Bakersfield High School where he excelled and lettered in basketball and in baseball with the 53 Valley Champs! Once A Driller Always a Driller Wayne also played semi-pro baseball with the Wasco Dons, leading them to the championship game. He was also highly sought after by the Pittsburg Pirates, however he elected to stay here and marry the love of his life, Chloe Keithley on June 11, 1955 and go to work for Richfield Oil (later ARCO) in 1956. That turned out to be his career and after an impressive 30 years with the company, retired. During his working years, he loved his vacation time with family camping trips to Lake Shasta, Clearlake and joy-rides with family and friends in his dune-buggy at Pismo Beach. At his leisure, he loved to draw, his sketches were incredible!! Easily could have had a career with Disney! Playing and singing country music on his guitar was one of his favorite things; whether it was by himself or with family and friends join-in. Wayne loved to BBQ for his family and friends; excelled on the grill like he excelled in sports and his career (the family dog always got a little tid- bid). The golf course was a passion, especially Sierra Sky Ranch at Bass Lake, where he would play in yearly tournaments. His retirement years were fun and very special; RV traveling with the ARCO Rovers, playing golf with his son, friends, former co-workers, and most of all trips to Vegas with his bride, Chloe or sometimes just kickin-back in his recliner with a cold ice tea watching football or a weekend golf tourney. Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Chloe; his son, Mike Lemons and his wife, Kim; grandson, Devin and granddaughter, Chelsea Lemons; his daughter, Cathy Lemons (Coleman) and her husband, Brian Coleman; grandsons, David and Daniel Coleman; his loving sister, Vicki Grogan and family who showed tremendous support during the last hours. Wayne will be so deeply missed by each and every one of his family members and friends by the special way he touched their lives; Oh, and about his life we can hear Wayne say, Not Too Shabby. We'll Love You Forever And Always!! A celebration of his life will be held in the weeks to come.
