She moved with her family to Bakersfield in 1956 and grew up in Oildale with her brother, Mike and her sister, JoAnn. She graduated from North High School, where her father was a mathematics teacher, in 1969. Joyce met the love of her life, Douglas Eugene Elliott, under a tree at Bakersfield Junior College in the spring of 1970. They were married on September 11, 1971. Following family tradition, Joyce graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a degree in mathematics and became a teacher. She later switched to private math tutoring. Doug and Joyce settled in the community of Encinitas (San Diego), where they raised their kids, Kevin and Chrysta, with love and dedication. Doug supported and encouraged all of his wifes marvelous talents. She was a beautiful artist, dancer and singer. She could flawlessly organize a party, wedding or soccer tournament. She was also an amazing cook and became quite famous for her cheeseballs. However, above all she was a mother, and in recent years, a grandmother. She took no job more seriously, and her constant, unselfish devotion to her family was observed by all and cherished by her kids. She was their best friend, their rock and their constant source of love and advice. She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Chrysta; her son, Kevin and wife, Sarah; her grandson, Jacob and granddaughter, Sophie; her mother, Gladys; her father, Elmore; her sister, JoAnn and her brother, Mike. Her positive outlook, generosity and strength will also forever be fondly remembered by countless friends and additional family.
