Lang Dec. 28, 1912 Feb. 6, 2005 A celebration of Sids life will be held on March 19th, 11:30 a.m., at the First Methodist Church on 4600 Stockdale Highway. Sid was born in Ohio and his family moved to Santa Paula, CA when he was 13. Here he was fascinated by the language of his Mexican friends and continued through high school and college to improve his knowledge of the language. His first teaching job was in Tule Lake, CA where he taught physics and band. One of his band students has kept in constant correspondence with him. From there he taught in Carpenteria and on to Bakersfield High where he taught physics. During WWII he was in the Navy and was stationed on the East Coast, West Coast, New Guinea and the Philippines working with underwater detection. Sid spent twenty years in the reserves. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lenore and his granddaughter, Jennifer. He is survived by his daughters, Diane Lang, Judy Astrin and son-in-law, Charles. He is survived by his wife, Bette; stepdaughter, Diane Upjohn and husband, Malcolm Upjohn; 4 step-grandchildren and 10 step-great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either church, MOAA or a favorite charity.
