She was born on March 29, 1921, in Oil Center, California to Ruth and Roy Lemaster. Along with eight brothers and sisters, she grew up in and around Oil Center and Bakersfield and attended Aztec School, Fremont, Emerson and Kern County Union High School. In 1939, she married Harvey D. Farris. During WWII, she spent, as she always said, the most exciting and happiest times she yet experienced, working in the shipyards in Long Beach, California, where she made a lot of friends and enjoying what we now take for granted, freedom. She worked as a secretary at various businesses and Kern County Personnel Department and she took up bookkeeping, She retired from business in 1982 and volunteered her time at many charities. She especially loved spending time at Morro Bay with her great friend, Helen Kershberger. She is survived by her daughters, Kathy Farris, Celia Daddario and Jane OKane; her grandchildren, Nicole and Joseph Daddario, Jeff and Charlotte OKane; great- grandchildren, Taryn, Hannah and Andrew OKane; sister and brothers, Barbara Chamberlin, Jack Lemaster and Dean Lemaster. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey, in 1986; sisters, Ellen and Myrtle and brothers, Wallace, Shorty (Francis) and Jim Lemaster. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but she will be in Gods hands and finally at peace. As per her instructions, no services will be held. Her ashes will be scattered over the ocean at Morro Bay, where she truly loved to be. Legacy.com Published in the Bakersfield Californian on 8/30/2005.
