After graduation from Delano High School, she worked for the Kern County Welfare Department in Delano before her marriage to Frank Sluga in 1947. After her marriage, she became a stay at home mom to her children. When her youngest was enrolled at Terrace School, Mrs. Sluga returned to work; taking a position at the same school. She eventually transferred to Cecil Avenue School and later worked at the District Office, logging over 30 years of service with Delano Union Elementary School District. Even after her retirement in 1992, she continued to work for the District on a fill-in basis. Mrs. Sluga was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Delano for over 50 years, serving as deconess and Sunday School teacher. She took an active role in her childrens education volunteering as room mother and participating in the PTA organization. She was recognized for her volunteer work being named Volunteer of the Year by the Terrace School PTA. Mrs. Sluga also volunteered in the Boy Scouts and Camp Fire Organizations, serving as a Cub Scout, Webloes, Blue Birds, and Camp Fire leader. Her love of music moved her to join the Delano Music memorial, an organization dedicated to recognizing and supporting the musical talents of young people. Our mother and grandmother will be deeply missed, but her spirit lives on in the lives of all the children she has touched.
