Emmey "Granny" Harkins
July 2, 1924 - April 1, 2005

Services will be held Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at 1:30 p.m. in Greenlawn 
Memorial Chapel, 3700 River Blvd., for Emmey "Granny" Harkins, 80, of 
Bakersfield, who passed away April 1, 2005, in Bakersfield. Chaplain Gary 
Bashor will officiate, and interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. 

Granny was born on July 2, 1924, in Barton County, Missouri. She was raised in 
Carthage and moved to California in 1943. Granny met her beloved husband of 
over fifty years, Gene Pop Harkins, in Ventura. Together they moved to 
Bakersfield in 1962, where they have remained ever since. 

Granny, as she was known by all, was an active member of the Shell Retirees 
Club and the Kern County Boat and Ski Club. She enjoyed socializing at all the 
local coffee shops, where she never met a stranger. Her greatest joy of all 
was spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great 
grandchildren. She fell in love with soccer through watching her grandson, 
Jeff, and became known as Bakersfields Soccer Granny. Her commitment to soccer 
continued through her great granddaughter, Samantha, whom she also followed 
into tennis. In recent years, she has been a fixture at Parkview Julian 
Convalescent Home, where she dedicated her days to taking care of Pop. 

Granny is preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Mildred Liles; and her 
grandparents, George and Nora Crawford. She is survived her husband, Gene 
Harkins; her daughter and son-in-law, Dixie and Gary Scheidemantel; 
granddaughter, Wendi Hasha; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Shelley and 
Michael Georgino; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Jeff and Amanda 
Scheidemantel; and great grandchildren, Samantha and Michael Georgino, Ryan 
and Elizabeth Hasha, and future Scheidemantel baby to be born in July. She is 
also survived by her sisters, Georgia Reis and Rose Bishop; and numerous 
nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be Tuesday, April 5, 2005, from 2 9 p.m. at Greenlawn 
Mortuary, 3700 River Blvd. 

Granny touched the lives of everyone she met and will be greatly missed by all.
