She married Marcos Gonzales, the love of her life, in October of 1947. She became a homemaker and loving mother to five beautiful children and had nine grandchildren. She passed away at home on June 8, 2005, with her family by her side after valiantly battling pancreatic cancer. Esperanza loved to cook for her family and was a wiz in the kitchen when it came to preparing a meal for a large group of people. She was a gregarious person who loved to smile and laugh with friends and family. She found joy from the simple things in life: going to movies, family get-togethers, eating out, and going to town. She adored her two Dachshunds, Gorda and Scooter, and doted over them like they were her little babies. Esperanza was preceded in death by her husband, Marcos Gonzales, who passed away in March of 2003 after more than fifty-five years of marriage and two sons, Johnny and Thomas. She is also preceded in death by her parents, Luis and Ambrosia Lomas; her three brothers, Antonio, Luis, and Ricardo; and three sisters, Elvira, Rosa, and Jessie. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who were part of her life. She is survived by her two sons, Mark Gonzales, Ernest Gonzales and wife, Esther; daughter, Elaine Perkins and her husband, Neal. She is also survived by her 9 grandchildren, John and wife, Tina, Thomas, Mark, Angelina, Janelle, Ernest, Ryan; stepgrandchildren, Courtney, Rich; sis Caroline Sanchez and a large extended family. Special thanks to her caregivers: Cathy, Sherrie, and Juana; R.N.s Ralph and Kathleen; neighbors, Larry and Jefferie Ray and Hoffmann Hospice who made Esperanzas last days peaceful and dignified and to all the family members who provided support and assistance. Pallbearers will be Richard Sesmas, Frank Sanchez, David Lomas and Esperanzas grandsons, John, Thomas, Mark, Ernest and Ryan. Visitation 3-6 p.m., June 16, Hillcrest Mortuary; Rosary 7:30 p.m., June 16, St. Francis Church; and Funeral Mass 9:00 a.m., June 17, St. Francis Church. A celebration of Esperanzas life will be held at 1:00 p.m., on June 17, at the Junior League of Bakersfields Community Center, 1928 19th Street.
